Evaluate

There was a lot of research required before i was able to create my final website. I needed to find out what html was, why is it useful and i needed to know how to use it. I needed to learn how to make tables, how to code, etc. There was a lot of coding required and I also needed to learn how to  use scripts. I believe i should get a good mark for this as i spent a long time learning everything and i had everything required included for example the unit question, the area of Interaction, a survey, the brainstorms etc. I had two designs for each page relevant to the website and I also had a table showing what my friends thought. I had 12 designs in total. My designs were quite detailed and i believe that they should receive a good mark for this as they are quite good and I listened to Ms.Veena's comments to make it better by adding the table of what my friends thought.. For my plan, i created a gannt chart and explained it. I had a month for the whole project and everything is laid out on my blog. My plan was very complex and detailed which is why i believe i should get an average mark for this as I forgot to write what skills I would need and what programs I would need to learn about however i did other things like the gannt chart and I believe that I explained everything thoroughly. Lastly, for my create, i worked on the project for a long time as i had to research everything about the javascripts and html. I also needed to learn how to code and I worked a lot on the logos and making the website look good. Another reason is because i made 5 pages which in my opinion all looked quite good, and on my home page, I had a picture slideshow which took a lot of coding. I also had buttons which lit up, which took coding however it didn't take that long. I also made a contact us form and added a map on the support page, to help consumers. I also had a timeline of all of Gibson's achievements and how they started.. I added a calendar on the events page and this was very complicated as there was a lot of javascript required and the coding was very complicated. For my create, I definitely think I did well as it is highly detailed and is user friendly for consumers. I showed my website to Rayan and he evaluated my work. He said that I could improve by adding more complicated things because this was before I added the calendar and slideshow. Overall, I think I did well for this project.

Plan

For the plan, we were told to make a gannt chart and evaluate it.
Here is my gannt chart:

As you can see above, my plan is to spend 6 days on the features of Dreamweaver, 4 days on each of the brainstorms and 8 days on the rest of the investigation with the survey. This would complete my investigation process. My plan for the design is to spend 2 days on each design and then one day for my choices for the designs. This would complete my design process. My plan for this gannt chart and evaluation was to finish it in one day which is what I did. This finished my planning process. For the create process, I have decided to spend 4 days on each page except for the support page, where I plan to spend 3 days. Finally, I plan to finish my evaluation of the whole project in one day.

I believe that I may not follow this plan, as I will need much more time for the create than in the investigation and design, so I might cut back on the days I spend on my design and investigation. I feel that I am accurate with the plan and evaluation and that I will only need one day for each of them. For my create, I believe I will need a lot more time which will probably be deducted from the time spent on my investigation and designs. However, overall I believe this plan is quite accurate.

Design

For my website, I made two designs for each page and then I had to evaluate my decisions by asking peers which was better and my own opinion.
For the home page, my two designs were:

I asked all my friends which design was better, and 9 people voted for the first design, and 6 for the second. They all said it was because the first design was more detailed and the design of the page itself looked better due tot he slideshow in the middle. I also believed this was true which is why I am going to use the first design in my website.

My two designs for the About Us page were:

In this picture, I had changed the guitar and the banner and 12 people liked the first banner more than the second and so they voted for the first design. I also felt the first banner looked better as it didn't look like the guitar was just there to make up space, it shows that it is significant to the banner thus am going to use the first one.

My designs for the History page were:

The difference was that I attached a guitar to the page in the second design thus making it look a little more artistic etc. as it was not just plain text. Everyone liked the second design better as it had an addition to the page, and I also believe that the second one is better and so I will use the second one.

My designs for the Store page:

The differences between the two designs here and those are the guitar, the search bar being outside where the guitars are listed and lastly, I added a check box allowing users to categorize what type of guitar they want. Here, 11 people liked the first design as they all said the check box would be very helpful, however the other 4 thought that it would be easier without it as they might not know what is good in guitars etc. I personally liked the first one better too and so, i will use it.

My two designs for the Events page are:

The difference here is the position of the picture of the band playing, where in the first design, it was next to the calendar and in the second, it was the background of the calendar. 10 people thought the first design was better as the second one would make it hard to read the events text, however the other five thought it was a great idea as it would give the calendar design. I personally thought the second one was better and so am going to use it.

Here are my designs for the Support page:

The differences between the two designs here were that there was the outlet location in the first one, and the position of the warranty information was different. Everyone chose the first design as it had more information regarding the outlet and so would be more useful. I also believe this was true and so am going to use the first design.

Here is the table showing the choices made by my friends;

How can the World Wide Web be used as an Advertising Tool
The world wide web can be used as an advertising tool as many people are on-line. Everyone nowadays uses the internet and not many people read newspapers or magazines. This means that it would be more practical to advertise on the web as there would be more viewers for the advertisements. This term, we were told to make a website using various kinds of software such as Dreamweaver and Photo Impact and we will also be using photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop to edit the pictures and banners that we might place on our website. We were told to brainstorm and so I am brainstorming on the topics; types of online advertising, what my website will be based on and what the website will consist of.

 I chose to do a website promoting my favorite guitar store, Gibson and I did this as Gibson is an amazing company however since not many people are into playing guitar, this could help.
Why have I chosen to sell guitars?
I have done some research and found that there aren’t many guitarists in my local community, in fact there aren’t many musicians which is a problem as it is a sign that people aren’t being all rounded by spending time working, playing etc. This is why I have decided to create a survey to see how much people truly know about music and guitars.
As mentioned previously, my questionnaire will be targeted on the people living in Emirates Living. This questionnaire will determine how many people are interested in playing music and not listening to it. The answers are going to be multiple choice allowing the people to have a choice of answers.
My target audience is my community, however mostly for kids and teens as most adults don’t have enough time to work on an instrument. I chose kids and teens as it promotes musicians and it will help them in the future as they have to work on something in IB, which is the Personal project, and more hobbies could lead to more choices.

AOI: Community and Service.

My area of interaction is community and service as I am promoting guitars to the community. As I showed above, I am promoting music to the community thus raising increasing their opportunities in life and diversifying their skills. It is a community service as it is helping my community by knowing more about music and by selling guitars.

Evaluation from the questionnaire
My results proved that not many people know about music as in how to play it and hardly anyone knew anything about guitar. I tested 15 people and of those 15, only 2 got everything right. Not many people know about the basics of musical text and how to read music as only 3 people got the first question right, 4 got the second and 2 got the third. Not many people knew anything about guitar as not many people got the questions about guitars right. This shows that people need to be more aware about music in my community and that more people should learn to play music as it helps being more all rounded and is really useful for the future in universities. Based on these, results I believe that more advertising for guitars might help inspire young people to play music.
Design Brief
What I might put on the website is listed below;
I am planning on;
·         Having a page for the history of Gibson specifying how Gibson became so popular and why their guitars are the best
·         Make a page for the store so the people can see what products are available from this company and the prices for the products.
·         Make an About Us page so that customers can get more details
·         Make an Events page showing competitions between bands and musicians
·         Make a Facebook page to advertise to more people and thus get more supporters
·         And a Support page for any inquiries customers may have
·         I will also have an Information page showing the basics of music such as notations etc.
Why I have chosen to do these things and how the design will look like?
Firstly, my website’s main focus is to spread awareness of music and its usefulness around the local communities. I have chosen to make the home page the history page so that customers can learn about Gibson, it will be designed with pictures of the founders and text explaining how the company was started etc. and I have chosen to make it the home page because the main concept of the organization is to create awareness and this page will contain a lot of detail regarding music.

Following that page I have decided to make a store page for all products that are being sold by Gibson which are guitars and accessories for example pics etc. and this will be designed with high quality pictures of the guitars, the model names and the price of each guitar. I have chosen to make this page because; it will help Gibson sell guitars.

Following the store page, there will be a page on events that will help local guitarists by organising competitions etc. and this will also raise musical awareness in the local communities. It will be designed as a user friendly interactive calendar page for events that will take place within the year.

 The last page on the website will be an ‘About us’ which will be designed in picture paragraph format that will contain sufficient detail regarding our contacts, locations, further details and mission statements. This will also contain the support column.
